Chris Chadbourne was recently asked to address the Entertainment Development Council at the 2010 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Real Estate Summit at the Spring Council Forum in Boston, Massachusetts. In a speech entitled “Where do You Put the Volcano…and Other Stories”, Chadbourne spoke of lessons learned from creating attendance-shattering exhibits for museums (those drawing over two million visitors per year) that are applicable to private sector mixed-use development with an entertainment component.
The lessons included “Five Things to do in Kearney, Nebraska”, dealing with

the subject of destination attractions in regional resource museums; "Let’s Put Some Teeth Into It", on the subject of authenticity and defining, as well as consistently supporting, the Brand; “The Medium is the Message, or Not”, on the uses of technology, the dilemma of trying to stay ahead of the curve, and assuming that the story drives the media, not vice-versa; and “It’s a Whole New Ballgame”, on the different uses of media and communication technologies of Generation Y and what it means to museums and story based attractions.
