United States Institute of Peace
Builds Headquarters in D.C.

03.26.10 The stunning new building designed by Moshe Safdie and Associates for the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) is currently under construction on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Christopher Chadbourne & Associates (CCA) has worked collaboratively with the USIP and Safdie’s firm to design exhibits for this global peace-building headquarters.

The United States Institute of Peace is an independent, nonpartisan, national institution established and funded by the U.S. Congress. Its goals are to help prevent and resolve violent international conflicts, promote post-conflict stability and development, and to increase

peace-building capacity, tools, and intellectual capital worldwide. Currently, CCA is involved in helping the USIP design and implement an exciting, provocative introduction to the Institute to be located in the lobby. When the Institute opens its doors in 2011, these introductory exhibitions will establish the idea that while conflict is endemic, peace is possible. The exhibition will also establish USIP as a global leader in peace-building, from the highest levels of negotiation, to grass roots organizing, to training future generations, to providing the tools for conflict resolution for tomorrow’s leaders.

CCA has also completed preliminary plans for a future global peace-building education center to be located in the lower level of the building.
