Yellowstone's Old Faithful Visitor Education Center
Opening in August

05.01.10 After years of meticulous planning, the fruits of collaboration will be realized on August 25th in a gala celebration to officially open Yellowstone National Park’s new Visitor Education Center at Old Faithful. Christopher Chadbourne & Associates (CCA) has designed and implemented the new exhibits at Old Faithful, the National Park Services’ most visited site in this wondrous park. The surrounding area has the largest collection of hydrothermal features in the world and draws over 3,000,000 international visitors per year.

The Old Faithful Visitor Education Center will highlight the science behind the hydrothermal features in the park, connecting what is visible

above ground with the underlying geology and unique conditions below ground that are manifest in the magnificent geysers, deep and still hot springs, hissing steam vents and plopping mud pots that are so abundant in our nation’s first national park.

The exhibitions focus not only on the geology, hydrology, and basic science of how hydrothermal features work, but also on scientific research. Visitors will be provided with tools and information on how to get the most from their visit, whether they are driving through or spending weeks hiking or skiing in the backcountry. In addition, there will be a space dedicated to the park-wide Young Scientist program. Designed to serve different age groups, this highly engaging program enables visitors to solve science mysteries both within the visitor center and out in the field.
