The San Francisco Museum and Historical Society selected Christopher Chadbourne & Associates (CCA) to design the new Museum of San Francisco. The museum will reside in the historic Old Mint, a National Historic Landmark building. Not only will this new museum celebrate the “city on the edge” and its people, it will also celebrate the Old Mint itself.

“At last, the city will have a world-class museum dedicated to the rich history that has made San Francisco one of the most celebrated cities anywhere,” said Ira Michael Heyman, Chairman of the Museum of San Francisco Storyline Committee and former Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution.
Within approximately 25,000 square feet of public exhibit space, the 19 museum galleries will use artifacts and cutting-edge media to trace the history of San Francisco through titles such as Instant City, QUAKE!, Capital of the Counter Culture, Politics of (In)Tolerance and Innovation & Invention.
The Museum is part of a larger complex that also includes the San Francisco Visitor Center and an American Money Museum, also to be designed by CCA.
