National Infantry Museum Advances Towards
Spring 2009 Opening

12.03.07 Soldiers are traveling to New York to have their likenesses cast for the museum’s action-filled immersive environments designed by Christopher Chadbourne & Associates (CCA). The casting process also happened on location in Fort Benning to capture Vietnam’s Landing Zone X-ray. The cast soldiers took positions in the Huey helicopter as pilots and door gunners, while actual helicopter pilots and soldiers who had been at LZ X-Ray were consulted to help get the details just right.
“The mission of this museum is to honor the Infantry’s 231-year legacy of valor and sacrifice, to preserve the artifacts that document that legacy and to teach Americans about the true cost of freedom,” said MG Jerry A. White, Chairman, National Infantry Foundation.

The new museum is located in Columbus, Georgia, adjacent to Fort Benning. Its signature exhibit will be The Last 100 Yards, where visitors are immersed in nine conflicts from Infantry history. After learning about Fort Benning and the training of today's soldiers, visitors descend to the central gallery that is ringed with rich exhibits and multimedia organized by eras of Infantry history.
