Tampa Bay History Center
Under Construction

01.15.08 Steady progress towards the opening in Fall 2008 is being made on the new exhibits designed by Christopher Chadbourne & Associates (CCA) for the new Tampa Bay History Center. On track to achieve LEED certification, the museum is dedicated to preserving the unique and rich cultural history of Hillsborough County, whose borders once extended across Florida from the Gulf of Mexico to present day Orlando. The history that has shaped and continues to shape the Tampa Bay region is born from Native Americans, Spanish exploration, cracker cattlemen, cigar
manufacturing, immigrant history, sports, the military and the port. The museum staff, the Christopher Chadbourne team, five media production companies and the community have collaborated to provide a wide range of museum experiences that will appeal to all ages.

“We cannot overemphasize the importance of comments and knowledge shared by the members of our diverse community during our focus group gatherings. The quality of our visits with these groups has provided much insight and assistance to direct the character of the exhibition experience,” said Elizabeth L. Dunham, Vice President for Programs.
