Upcountry History Museum Opens in
Greenville, Fall 2007

01.04.08 The Upcountry History Museum celebrates its region’s rich history through 9,000 square feet of exhibitions. Upcountry, South Carolina is bordered by North Carolina and Georgia and extends to the central plains of South Carolina. The region’s history, while unique, also exemplifies a shared American experience: the conflicts and collaborations that occur as a diversity of cultures and classes converge in pursuit of the promise of new lands, new industries and new ways of life.
“This whole museum is based on telling stories. That is a really simple and old fashioned concept – the idea that you learn about life through stories and you learn about life through meeting people. We do this in a lot of different ways – some of them ‘high tech’ and some of them ‘low tech,’” said Pamela Meister, Executive Director.

Christopher Chadbourne & Associates (CCA) worked closely with the museum’s board and staff, historians Steven O’Neill and A.V. Huff, architect Pazdan-Smith Group and media producers Michael Schaffer Productions, Cortina Productions and Ferncreek Creative to develop the recreated historic architecture, artifact displays, media, and interactive exhibits.
